Laboratory for Genomics Research

This Privacy Policy describes how the Laboratory for Genomics Research, a collaboration between UC San Francisco, UC Berkeley and GSK (collectively, the “LGR”) is the data controller of your personal information and how LGR uses and protects it. We collect from or about you or your devices or that you provide to us through the website at www.LGR.bio and its related subdomains (collectively, the “Site”); and the choices you can make about that information. The term “Site” includes the content, materials, services, tools and other features and functionality we make available through the Site. Your use of this Site is subject to the Terms of Use and this Privacy Policy.

The LGR are responsible for the personal information you share with us. When we say “we”, “us” or “our”, this is who we are referring to.  If anything in this Privacy Policy conflicts with local law in your jurisdiction, local law prevails. We may change this Privacy Policy from time to time. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically.

We do not sell personal information and have not done so in the preceding 12 months.

This Policy covers how the LGR will collect, use, and share website user data.

What Information We Collect

The personal information that we collect, and process/or disclose may include, both currently and in the preceding 12 months:

This website has hyperlinks to the websites of the three organizations participating in the LGR.  Through those websites candidates can apply for open positions with those organizations; however, LGR itself does not receive or use any of that data beyond the number of users of this site who follow those hyperlinks. We and our service providers collect personal information in a variety of ways, including from:

  • directly from you or an authorized representative;
  • government entities;

  • research collaborators;
  • data resellers;
  • marketing vendors; and
  • business service providers

You provide information to the LGR when you use the contact form or otherwise provide LGR with or make available information through other registration and data capturing processes, including public sources of such data.

When you visit and interact with the Site you can choose how much information you share. You can refuse to supply information, with the caveat that withholding information may prevent you from engaging in certain Site-related activities.

LGR may automatically collect information from or about your devices.

LGR may collect information about you from publicly available sources.

LGR may combine any of the information we collect from or about you or your devices and use it in the manner described in this Privacy Policy.

Use of Data

We use your personal information for the purposes we have described below in this Privacy Policy, or for purposes which are reasonably compatible with the ones described. We will not, use it for other purposes without your permission, unless we have a legal right or obligation to do so.

  • To provide you with information when you request it, or when we believe it may be of interest to you;

Cookies, Web Beacons and Other Similar Technologies

The Site may partner with third parties, including but not limited to: Google (Google Analytics) and or heat mapping tools such as Hotjar or FullStory, to use cookies, web beacons, analytics, and other storage technologies to collect or receive information from this site and elsewhere on the Internet and use that information as part of targeted advertising or remarketing. These companies collect information from across the Internet and are not controlled or managed by the LGR. You can opt out of having your browsing data collected by these companies by managing your ads preferences or privacy settings on these companies’ websites.

Do-Not-Track Signals and Similar Mechanisms

Some web browsers transmit "do-not-track" signals to websites. Because of differences in how web browsers incorporate and activate this feature, it is not always clear whether users intend for these signals to be transmitted, or whether they even are aware of them. We currently do not take action in response to these signals.

How long do we keep your personal information?

We will always keep your personal information for the period required by law and where we need to do so in connection with legal action or an investigation involving the LGR. Otherwise, we keep your personal information:

We keep your personal information for as long as needed or permitted for the purpose(s) for which it was obtained and consistent with applicable law.

Sharing of Data

We share your personal information on a need to know basis, to the extent necessary to follow laws and regulations, and to manage the activities related to our relationship with you.

We share your personal information with teams at the LGR who need to see it to do their jobs. In some cases, our relationship with you is supported by specialized service providers working on our behalf. These service providers are contractually required to protect your personal information and not to use it for their own purposes.

These specialized service providers include:

  • advertising networks;
  • internet service providers;
  • data analytics providers;
  • operating systems and platforms;
  • social networks;
  • joint marketing organizations; and
  • research partners.


We will also share your personal information with local or foreign regulators, or government and law enforcement authorities as necessary or appropriate, in particular when we have a legal obligation to do so. These may be in or outside your country of residence. We may also disclose your personal information for other legal reasons, such as to enforce our terms and conditions; and protect our rights, privacy, safety or property, and/or that of our affiliates, you or others.


In what instances do we transfer your personal information outside of your home country?

This website and Privacy Policy are intended only for individuals within the United States. However, the LGR conducts research all over the world. Therefore, we may need to transfer and use your personal information outside of the United States. We implement appropriate measures to protect your personal information when we transfer your personal information outside of your home country such as data transfer agreements that incorporate standard data protection clauses. The data privacy laws in the countries we transfer it to may not be the same as the laws in the United States. Law enforcement agencies, regulatory agencies, security authorities or courts in the countries we transfer your personal information to may have the right to see your personal information.

How do we protect your personal information?

The LGRs will take appropriate legal, organizational, and technical measures to protect your personal information consistent with applicable privacy and data security laws.

Unfortunately, the transmission of information via the Internet or a mobile phone network connection is not completely secure. Although we will take reasonable efforts to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the security of the personal information you transmit to our websites or mobile applications: any transmission is at your own risk. While we cannot guarantee that loss, misuse or alteration to data will not occur, once we have received your information, we will employ appropriate technical security measures to help prevent such unfortunate occurrences that will require the use of the industry standard security protocol known as Secure Sockets Layer (SSL).

Rules for Individuals Under Sixteen Years of Age

Our services are not directed to children and we do not knowingly collect any personal information from minors under 16 years of age. The LGR are committed to complying fully with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act and other applicable laws. Accordingly, if a user of the Site is under the age of sixteen, such user is not authorized to provide LGR with personally identifying information, and LGR will not use any such information in its database or other data collection activities Users under the age of sixteen and their parents or guardians are cautioned that the collection of personal information volunteered by unauthorized children online or by e-mail will be treated the same as information given by an adult until LGR becomes aware that the user is under the age of sixteen and such information may be subject to public access.

Changes to This Website Privacy Policy

This Website Privacy Policy is effective as of May 10, 2021. We may amend this Policy from time to time. New versions of this Policy are effective when they are posted at this URL. Unless stated in an updated version, use of the information that we collect will be subject to the version of the Policy that was in effect at the time such information was collected.

Opting Out

If you do not wish to receive certain communications from us, you may opt out by declining to provide us with information at information gathering points on this Site, or (2) unsubscribing from our promotional emails via the link provided in the emails, unless such communications from us are required by law or contract or do not require your consent under applicable laws. Requesting to Access or Delete Personal Information

You may have rights we need to make you aware of. The rights available to you depend on our reason for processing your personal information and the local law in your jurisdiction, and there are exceptions to some rights. 

If personal information you have provided us in the past is no longer correct, we have a process for working with you to update that information.

Also, some California residents have the right, or their authorized agent may request, at no charge, up to twice every 12 months that we:

  • Provide copies of your personal information directly to you. There are some exceptions, which means you may not always receive all the information we process;
  • Correct information that is inaccurate or incomplete; and
  • Delete your personal information, subject to some exceptions.

Your right to access or delete your personal information is subject to applicable legal restrictions. We do not discriminate against California residents who exercise any of their rights described in this privacy policy.

In order for us to process requests to access or delete your information, we will need to verify your identity to confirm that the request came from you. We may contact you by e-mail to verify your request. Depending on your request, we will ask for information such as your name, and an e-mail address that you have used. For certain requests, we may also ask you to provide details about the most recent interaction you made online with our Site.

You may designate an authorized representative to submit a request on your behalf to access or delete your personal information. To do so, you must: (1) provide that authorized representative written and signed permission to submit such a request; and (2) verify your own identity directly with us. Please note, we may deny a request from an authorized representative that does not submit proof that they have been authorized by you to act on your behalf.

California law indicates that organizations should disclose whether certain categories of personal information are collected, “sold,” or disclosed for an organization’s “business purpose” (as those terms are defined under California law). We do not sell personal information and have not done so in the preceding 12 months. If you would like more information concerning the categories of personal information (if any) that the Partners collects for analytical or marketing purposes, please submit a written request to us using the information in the "Communicating with Us" section.

In the calendar year prior to the effective date of this Privacy Policy, we received 0 requests from eligible consumers for access or information about our information practices.
